Crooked Creek Baptist Church is
years old
Organized in 1803 on an old Indian campground, Crooked Creek is one of the oldest churches in the Athens area. The stone church foundations of the original structure can still be seen adjacent to the church cemetery. The old outdoor baptismal pool is partially
hidden in the undergrowth near the creek.
In recent years, God has blessed our congregation with Godly leadership and steady growth. Under the pastorate of Bill Carpenter (1976-1986), our present auditorium was built, and under the ministry of Tom Miles (1986-2015), the fellowship hall and additional classrooms were added. Under the leadership of our current pastor, Brenson Jennings, several renovation projects have been done or are underway.
Yet, a church is so much more than its facilities. By God’s grace, CCBC has been a light to this community for over 200 years. A countless number of lives have been changed through the preaching of the Gospel and the individual witness of our members. Our heartbeat here at the Creek has been knowing Jesus and making Him known here at home as well as abroad.
